Smile

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). The world around us gives us a lot to frown about. Bad news, sad news, and a lot of “gossiping” news is quick to fill our lives and crush our spirit. Thankfully, our Heavenly Father is looking out for us and is continuously giving us much to smile about!

We’ve spent the past several weeks looking at ways to praise the Lord and one of those ways is to smile. When we stop to think on the blessings from the Lord, we focus our attention on Him instead of ourselves. Not only does this act of praise bring joy to the Father’s heart and a smile to His face, but it also creates a cheerful heart within us and gives us the undeniable urge to smile!

It’s no wonder that when God created us He designed us with the ability to smile. Our frame of mind changes the instant we smile. Smiling also “makes us attractive, changes our mood, is contagious, relieves stress, boosts the immune system, lowers our blood pressure, releases endorphins, natural pain killers and serotonin, and lifts the face and makes us look younger” (Dr. Mark Stibich).

Through a simple God given act of smiling, we can change our heart and the heart of those around us! Keep on smiling!

  1. It's funny. I knew this already, but it's great to be reminded that I should be more intentional about smiling! Great post!

  2. They say it takes more facial muscles to frown than it does to smile. It's a simple thing really, yet we do it so rarely. I think of the churches that I watch on TV. As they show choir or church members singing, so often they aren't smiling. I'm the world's most guilty of this. I have been saved! I have a lot to smile about!
